World AIDS Day Events in Argentina and India

ICW's Regional Contacts, Celina d'Costa and Patricia Perez, were involved in many activities on World AIDS Day. Below you can read more about the awareness raising events that they participated in.

ARGENTINA

Te cuento que el 1º de Diciembre realizamos la 13º Exhibición de Mantas Conmemorativas de personas fallecidas a causa del virus del VIH/SIDA. La misma se realizó un Plaza Las Heras, un parque céntrico de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires - Argentina. Nos acompañaron el coro Kennedy y el Coro Villasoles de lengua de señas, quienes cantaron el tema Homenaje a ICW “Mujeres por la VIDA”. La muestra de mantas fue visitada por más de 4.500 personas a quienes le hemos regalado el CD Mujeres por la VIDA. La ceremonia de cierre fue cubierta por varios medios de comunicación social.

INDIA

On World AIDS Day we had Rally with School and college children where 450 students participated in the rally. Participants shouted slogans. The slogans were to give information on HIV/AIDS, sensitise people on PLHA issues and to care for people living with HIV/AIDS. Participants were holding Banners which said "Live and Let Live" In Marathi language.

We then went to another community and had Poster exhibition, where around 500 people went through the information. These posters were also to give information and to sensitise people on PLHA issues.

We then had a Health Camp for Women in another slum communities. Team of Gyneac OPD of Barthi Vidhyapeet. Team members were 17 and included Doctors, Nurses, Lab technicians, Attendants, incharges. We also had Pathway team of Doctor, nurses, social workers, community health workers, peer educators, mobile clinic and so on.

In total 70 women had health checkup which included: Heomoglobin test, BP, Weight, Height, general examination plus treatment.

These all programs were Organised through Pathway. Pathway is a Home Based Care Project by three Organisation - Project Concern International, Sevadham Trust, Network of Maharashtra By People Living with HIV/AIDS(NMP+).

I was leading this team as Social Worker of Pathway.
