The Global Consultation on SRH of PLHIV Amsterdam 2007
The consultation will provide specific slots planned for and by women and young people from the networks, and all three networks (GNP+, ICP and Young Positives) will be represented by members who are local, regional and/or global advocates and specialists on these issues.
The Global Consultation is intended to:
-Strengthen the capacity of individuals living with HIV and their organizations and networks to participate fully in policy and program design;
-Articulate an overarching position statement to guide the practical work of stakeholders engaged in policy, programs and advocacy around the sexual and reproductive health and rights of people living with HIV;
-Highlight the specific needs of key groups and ensure that the Guidance Package (described in more detail below) takes these needs into account;
--Stress the gender dimensions of the sexual and reproductive health of people living with HIV, and the overlapping issues of violence and poverty;
--Identify a concrete agenda for further debate, research and action; and
-Develop plans for disseminating the outcomes of the consultation and, ultimately, stimulate stakeholders to act on its recommendations.
The international meeting will bing together 80 representatives of organizations of people living with HIV. The outcomes will include a position statement clearly articulating the sexual and reproductive health needs of people living with HIV; an attractively produced Guidance Package outlining activities needed in the policy, health systems and advocacy arenas; and related communications and advocacy activities.
The meeting will take place in 5-7 December 2007 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

<!--[if !supportFootnotes]-->[1]<!--[endif]--> Based on the guiding principles and concrete actions discussed and agreed upon at the consultation, a comprehensive guidance package addressing the sexual and reproductive health needs and rights of women, men and young people will be drafted. the Guidance Package will be drawn from a longer background paper. These background papers will be reviewed and discussed at the consultation, as described above, and after revision will be available on-line for researchers and others who wish a more comprehensive discussion of the issues.
